Mr. Sano - Sanouji

Japanese: 佐野氏 - さのうじ

A samurai family from the Middle Ages and Early Modern Periods in Shimotsuke. Originated from Sano Manor in Aso County. The descendants of Fujiwara Hidesato spread throughout Shimotsuke, and his 10th generation grandson, Ashikaga Shichiro Aritsuna's son Mototsuna took the name Sano Taro. Mototsuna served Minamoto no Yoritomo and became a vassal. The genealogy from the second lord Kunitsuna onwards is unclear, but his descendants ruled the Sano region, leading to Munetsuna at the end of the Sengoku period. Munetsuna was defeated and killed in battle with Nagao Akinaga, lord of Tatebayashi Castle in Kozuke, in 1585 (Tensho 13), and the remains were inherited by Hojo Ujimasa's younger brother Ujitada. Ujitada holed himself up in Odawara Castle during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Odawara Conquest in 1590, and fell into ruin when the castle fell.

下野の中･近世の武家。安蘇郡佐野荘より起こる。藤原秀郷の子孫が下野に広まり，その10世孫足利七郎有綱の子基綱が佐野太郎を称した。基綱は源頼朝に仕え，御家人となる。2代国綱以降の系譜は確かではないが，その子孫が佐野の地を領し，戦国時代の末，宗綱に至る。宗綱は1585年(天正13)に上野館林城主長尾顕長と戦って敗死したので，北条氏政の弟氏忠がその遺跡を継いだ。氏忠は90年豊臣秀吉の小田原征伐に際し小田原城にこもり，落城とともに没落。
