Town Use - Town Use

Japanese: 町入用 - まちにゅうよう

This refers to the income and expenditure accounting of towns in early modern Japan. In early modern Japanese society, the receipts and disbursements of money and goods associated with governance, provision, management, operation, production, consumption, burdens, and distribution were recorded at various levels, including the power structures of the state and feudal lords, various communities and cooperative organizations, and individual business entities, and the process and results of these calculations were recorded. Town needs refer to the income and expenditure accounting of the town for the various items related to management, operation, burdens, and distribution in the town, which was a community of townspeople based on local ties, and in this respect it is roughly the same as the relationship between villages and village needs.

日本近世の町（ちよう）における収支会計のこと。日本の近世社会では，国家や領主の権力諸機構，多様な共同体･共同組織，個々の経営体などの諸レベルにおいて，支配や給付，管理や運営，生産や消費，負担や配分などに伴う金銭や物品の出納が行われ，その算用の過程や結果が記録された。町入用はこのうち，町人の地縁的共同体である町における管理･運営，負担･配分に関する諸項の，町としての収支会計を意味しており，この点は村と村入用の関係にほぼ等しい。
