Died May 5, 1945. Paris. French craftsman. Studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and opened a jewelry workshop in Paris in 1885. A promoter of the French Art Nouveau art movement in the late 19th century, he created elegant and fantastical jewelry and crafts using all kinds of materials, including gold, silver, cloisonné, and precious stones. He also perfected the technique of blowing glass into intricately engraved molds, and attracted attention when he exhibited his work at the 1900 Paris World's Fair. In 1920, he acquired a glass workshop and produced works that combined a unique technique of sandblasting the surface to make it matte and buffing the convex surfaces to bring out the luster of the glass, as well as works that combined silverwork. These techniques influenced glass crafts in various countries in the 1920s.
