Chinese Sumo - Chinese Sumo

Japanese: 中国相撲 - ちゅうごくずもう

A Chinese sport known as sumo wrestling. Similar to wrestling, competitors wear a judogi-like uniform with sashiko stitching and shoes, and fight in a circular sumo ring about 7 meters in diameter, aiming for a pinfall. There are three rounds, each lasting three minutes, and the points are determined by the opponent's touching the ground (three points) and the opponent's body being lifted above the shoulders (two points), but there are other rules as well. Strength contests have been held since ancient times, and the word was written as sumo wrestling, but in the Han dynasty it became more commonly known as kakutei (corner resistance).

中国で行われる摔跤(摔交)（しゆつこう）のこと。レスリングに近く，競技者は刺子の柔道着のようなユニフォームを着て靴をはき，直径約7mの円型土俵でフォールをめざして闘う。3ラウンド制で，1ラウンド3分，相手の体が地面に触れると3点，相手の体を持ち上げて，自分の肩より上に上げれば2点というような得点が決まっているが，別ルールもある。古くから力くらべが行われ，角力と書いたが，漢代に入ると角觝(角抵)（かくてい）と呼ばれて一般化した。
