Central Pharmaceutical Affairs Council

Japanese: 中央薬事審議会 - ちゅうおうやくじしんぎかい

An advisory body to the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare that existed until 2001 to investigate and deliberate on important pharmaceutical matters such as the manufacture, sale and import of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and cosmetics. It had 50 members. In addition to the standing committee and pharmacopoeia committee, it had 11 special committees such as the special committee on drug reevaluation, and each committee had an investigation committee. The Local Pharmaceutical Affairs Council belonged to each prefecture, and investigated and deliberated as an advisory body to each head of the prefecture. With the launch of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2001 as a result of the reorganization of central ministries and agencies, it was merged with the Food Sanitation Investigation Council to become the Pharmaceutical Affairs and Food Sanitation Council, a new body with a committee of up to 30 members.

医薬品，医療用器具および化粧品の製造，販売，輸入など薬事の重要事項について調査，審議をするため 2001年まで置かれた厚生大臣の諮問機関。委員は 50人。常任部会，薬局方部会のほか，医薬品再評価特別部会など 11特別部会を置き，各部会に調査会を設けた。地方薬事審議会は各都道府県に属し，各首長の諮問機関として調査，審議にあたった。2001年中央省庁再編による厚生労働省の発足に伴い，食品衛生調査会と統合，新たに委員 30人以内で組織される薬事・食品衛生審議会となった。
