Central cone - Chuo ka kokyu

This refers to a relatively small volcano that formed later inside a large crater or caldera (the outer mountain is the somma). It is formed by stratovolcanoes, lava domes, cinder cones, etc. Central crater cones often consist of multiple mountain bodies, and within the Aso caldera there are a group of about a dozen central crater cones, including the so-called Aso Five Mountains. Izu Oshima's central crater cone, Mt. Mihara, is also called an inner crater mountain, but this is a specific place name used only on the island and is not a common academic term.

大きな火口やカルデラの内側に、後から生成された比較的小規模の火山をいう（外側の山は外輪山）。成層火山、溶岩円頂丘、噴石丘などで形成される。中央火口丘は、複数の山体からなることも多く、阿蘇カルデラ(あそかるでら)内には、いわゆる阿蘇五岳など、十数座の中央火口丘が群をなす。伊豆大島の中央火口丘、三原山は、内輪山ともよばれるが、これは、同島だけに通用する固有地名で、一般的な学術用語ではない。
