Okaya Ranch - Okaya no Maki

An ancient horse ranch located in Suwa County, Shinano Province, now Okaya City, Nagano Prefecture. It was one of the 16 ranches in Shinano as ordered by the emperor (Engishiki). Later, as the land was cultivated, it became a manor under the jurisdiction of the Left Horse Bureau, and in the latter half of the 12th century (during the Jisho era), it was donated to the lower shrine of Suwa Shrine (Suwa Taisha Shrine) and became a sacred land. → Ranch Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |

信濃国諏訪(すわ)郡，現長野県岡谷市にあった古代の馬牧。勅旨牧で信濃16牧の一（《延喜式》）。のち耕地化が進んで左馬(め)寮管轄の荘園となり，12世紀後半（治承年中）に諏訪社（諏訪大社）下宮に寄進されて神領となった。→牧
