Labor Liberation Organization (English: Osvobozhdenie truda)

The first Marxist group in Russia. It was founded in Geneva in 1883 by GV Plekhanov, VI Zasulic and others who were in exile in Switzerland. They criticized the Narodnik theory that Russia could move directly to socialism based on rural communities without going through capitalism, and argued that Russia had already entered the capitalist stage, and that the main force of the revolution would be the proletariat, not the peasants. This group later became the parent organization of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
