...These excess gases are expelled or consumed in the case of slow decompression, but in the case of rapid decompression, gases with low solubility, especially nitrogen gas, turn into bubbles, which block blood vessels, impede blood circulation, and compress tissues, resulting in the following symptoms of decompression sickness: (1) itching and bleeding of the skin, (2) pain in the joints of the limbs, known as "bends," (3) chest pain and shortness of breath, known as "chokes," or shock symptoms such as low blood pressure and cyanosis, and (4) central nervous system symptoms such as motor paralysis and sensory impairment due to spinal cord damage, or dizziness, nausea, impaired consciousness, and impaired vision due to brain damage. It is also known that bone destruction can occur as a chronic symptom.
