Gyeongbu Railroad - Kyǒng-Bu ch'ǒlto

Japanese: 京釜鉄道 - けいふてつどう（英語表記）Kyǒng-Bu ch'ǒlto

A railway built between Gyeongseong (now Seoul) and Busan in Korea with the support of the Japanese government and business community. The Gyeongbu Railway Company was founded in September 1898 with capital of 25 million yen and chairman Shibusawa Eiichi. Construction began in August 1893, and was completed in 1895 after many disputes. This was at the request of the military in the context of the international situation of conflict between Japan and Russia, and in 1907 it came under the control of the Resident-General of Korea, and from 1910 it came under the jurisdiction of the Government-General of Korea. After liberation in 1945, it became Korea's national railway. To connect with Chinese railways, the line was designed to be 1,435mm wide gauge, covering the 450km distance between Seoul and Busan.

日本政府，財界援助のもとに，朝鮮の京城 (現ソウル) －釜山間に敷設された鉄道。光武2 (1898) 年9月，資本金 2500万円，取締役会長渋沢栄一で京釜鉄道会社が設立され，同6年8月着工，多くの紛糾を経て同8年完成した。これは日露対立の国際情勢を背景に軍事的要請によるもので，同 10年に統監府の管理となり，隆煕4 (1910) 年以後朝鮮総督府の管轄。 1945年解放後，韓国の国有鉄道となっている。中国の鉄道との連結のため広軌軌道の 1435mmとし，ソウル－釜山間 450kmをいう。
