Chimori-sho

Japanese:
Chimori-sho

A manor belonging to Todaiji Temple in Asuwa County, Echizen Province. It corresponds to the area around the confluence of the Asuwa River and Hino River in the west of Fukui City today. In 749 (Tenpyo Shoho 1), the temple was granted permission to own reclaimed land, and the land was designated by the Todaiji field envoy, and in around 756, 100 cho of reclaimed land was donated by Ikue no Azumahito, the head of Asuwa County. In the 950 (Tenryaku 4) "Todaiji Fuko Manor and Temple Use Register," it appears to be 326 cho, 2 tan, 55 bu. Shortly after its establishment, the temple land was encroached upon by surrounding farmers and others due to Fujiwara no Nakamaro's policy of restricting the land, and some of it was made public land. The existence of this manor was part of the national economic reconstruction plan that was being implemented at the time. After that, the management was reconstructed and the unification was promoted through confiscation, exchange, and purchase. The Echizen kokushi's release from 766 (Tenpyo Jingo 2) and the map of the land development are preserved in Shosoin.
