Timor Island (English name) Pulau Timor

An island in the southeastern part of Indonesia that belongs to the Lesser Sunda Islands. It stretches from northeast to southwest, stretching about 480 km long and covering an area of about 31,000 km2. It has a population of about 1.3 million. Topographically, it forms an island chain that separated from the main Lesser Sunda Islands along with Sumba Island and others, and lies between them in the Sau (Sau) Sea. The island is mountainous, with an ancient rock foundation, and there is no volcanic activity. The highest point is Mount Tatamailau (2,960 m) in the center. There are many plateaus in the southwest, and raised coral reefs are well developed. The dry season is quite long, and the amount of precipitation is less than in other parts of Indonesia.

インドネシア南東部，小スンダ列島に属す島。北東から南西に細長く延び，長さ約480km，面積約3万1000km2。人口約130万。地形的にはスンバ島などとともに小スンダ列島の本系列から分かれた島列を形成し，その間にサウ(サブ)海を抱く。島は山がちで古い岩石が基盤をなし，火山活動は存在しない。最高点は中央部のタタマイラウ山(2960m)。南西部では台地が多く，また隆起サンゴ礁が著しく発達する。気候は乾季がかなり長く，降水量もインドネシアの他地域に比して少ない。
