Sekigahara Mono

Japanese: 関ヶ原物 - せきがはらもの

A type of Joruri and Kabuki. A general term for works based on the Battle of Sekigahara. However, since it was not permitted to dramatize it directly during the Edo period, it was mainly referenced and adapted from the world of Zen Taiheiki and events in the Kamakura period after the death of Yoritomo. There are not many famous works, but the main ones are Joruri, such as Raiko Shinato Melon at the Toyotakeza in August 1719 (Kyoho 4) (estimated), Ishida Tsume Shogi Gunbai at the Edo Hizenza in January 1783 (Tenmei 3), and Koi no Denju Bunbu Jindai at the Takemotoza in November 1790 (Kansei 2). Among the Kabuki plays are "Oofurisodekewai no Mizuumi" (Lake in a Large Kimono), performed at the Osaka Ichiyama-za in March 1789, "Ishidatami Futaba no Jinmaku" (The Stone-paved War Curtain) at the Osaka Fujikawa-za in March 1909, "Sekigahara Tozai Gunki" (Record of the East and West Wars of Sekigahara), performed at the Tokyo Ichimura-za in September 1881 (Meiji 14), and "Sekigahara Kami no Aoiba" (Leaves of the Divine Aoiba) at the Tokyo Shintomi-za in June 1887.

浄瑠璃，歌舞伎の一系統。関ヶ原合戦を題材にした作品の総称。ただし江戸時代にはそれを直接劇化することは許されていないので，もっぱら〈前太平記〉の世界や頼朝没後の鎌倉時代の出来事に仮託，脚色されている。あまり著名な作品はないが，主要なものとしては，浄瑠璃に，1719年(享保4)8月(推定)大坂豊竹座の《頼光新跡目論（らいこうしんあとめろん）》，83年(天明3)1月江戸肥前座の《石田詰将棋軍配（いしだづめしようぎのぐんばい）》，90年(寛政2)11月大坂竹本座の《恋伝授文武陣立（こいのでんじゆぶんぶのじんだて）》があり，一方，歌舞伎には，1789年3月大坂市山座の《大振袖粧湖（おおふりそでけわいのみずうみ）》，99年3月大坂藤川座の《石畳嫩陣幕（いしだたみふたばのじんまく）》，1881年(明治14)9月東京市村座の《関ヶ原東西軍記》，87年6月東京新富座の《関原神葵葉（せきがはらかみのあおいば）》などがある。
