Chifuren

Japanese: 地婦連 - ちふれん

Abbreviation of "National Regional Women's Organizations Liaison Council," also known as "Zenchifuren." Founded in 1952 as a liaison and consultation body for regional women's organizations. First chairperson was Yamataka Shigeri (1899-1977). The organization was formed under guidance from the GHQ Civil Affairs Bureau. It has been involved in the Komeito Election Movement, the New Life Movement, the consumer movement, and improving the status of women, and since 1968 has been making and selling the inexpensive Chifure cosmetics brand. It participated in a liaison conference formed by private organizations nationwide on the occasion of International Women's Year in 1975, and has been working to achieve gender equality. As of 2013, 49 organizations are members.

〈全国地域婦人団体連絡協議会〉の略称で，〈全地婦連〉とも通称。1952年地域婦人団体の連絡協議機関として結成。初代会長山高しげり〔1899-1977〕。結成の背景にはGHQ民生局の指導があった。公明選挙運動，新生活運動，消費者運動，女性の地位向上などに取り組み，1968年以来化粧品〈ちふれ〉を作って安価で売り出している。1975年国際婦人年を契機に全国規模の民間団体が集まって結成した連絡会に参加，男女平等の実現に向けて活動している。2013年現在49団体が加盟。
