Paintings made with paints dissolved in water. In English, watercolor, in French, aquarelle. This term includes those made with opaque paints such as gouache and tempera, but in the narrow sense, it refers to those made with transparent paints. Transparent paints are pigments mixed with gum arabic, water, glycerin, etc. As seen in the examples of Dürer and others, watercolors have been used since the Renaissance for sketching and preliminary drawings during travels, but watercolor paintings as finished works began in England in the late 18th century to early 19th century, and were established by Cotman, Constable, and others. In Japan, it was started by Asai Chu, Ishii Hakutei, Miyake Katsumi, and others. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
