A unit system for electromagnetism. Electrical quantities are expressed in electrostatic units, and magnetic quantities in electromagnetic units. The permittivity of a vacuum is ε 0 = 1, and the magnetic permeability is μ 0 = 1, so electricity and magnetism are well symmetric in Maxwell's equations. Since it is expressed in the CGS unit system, it is also called the CGS Gaussian unit system. Source: About Shogakukan Digital Daijisen Information | Legend |
