Blood Snapper - Evynnis japonica

Blood Snapper - Evynnis japonica
A marine fish of the Sparidae family in the order Perciformes (illustration). Because it closely resembles red sea bream, it is often used as a substitute for red sea bream or is not distinguished from it, but the crimson sea bream can be distinguished by the fact that the rear edge of the tail fin is not bordered black. The edges of the gill covers are also red, as if they were bloody. It reaches a total length of 45 cm. It is distributed throughout Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and the East China Sea, but is more prevalent in the south. It has many local names, such as Hidai in Iki and Tsushima, and Kodai in Kochi and Niigata prefectures. In addition, the forehead of adult males protrudes, so it is called Ooppana in Tokyo and Hanadai in Choshi.
