Cheetah - Cheetah (English spelling)

Japanese: チーター - ちーたー(英語表記)cheetah
Cheetah - Cheetah (English spelling)

It is a member of the order Carnivora and family Felidae. It is found in all parts of Africa except the Sahara Desert and tropical rainforests, through Asia Minor, and up to northern India, where it inhabits savannas and wastelands. Its body length is 1.2-1.5 meters, its tail length 60-80 centimeters, and its weight 45-90 kilograms. Its body is gray to brown, with small black spots scattered densely. Its claws are not sharp and cannot be retracted into sheaths. It usually lives in a pair of males and females, or in families with a female and grown young, but hunting groups of three or four males and groups of males searching for females have also been observed. No groups of females alone have been observed. It is diurnal, hunting in the morning and evening. Its prey is small to medium-sized ungulates, such as blackbucks and Axis deer in India, and gazelles, warthogs, and zebras in Africa. It approaches its target prey by crouching, then suddenly charges forward to chase and kill it. It is said to be the fastest animal on earth, and can accelerate to 72 kilometers per hour after starting to run for two seconds, and its top speed is 113 kilometers per hour. In East Africa, it usually gives birth during the rainy season and between March and June, after a gestation period of 90 to 95 days, and gives birth to 1 to 8 babies at a time. It can live for more than 18 years in captivity. Indian royalty tamed this species and used it for antelope hunting. For this reason, it is also known as the hunting leopard.
