Seki Sanjuro

Japanese: 関三十郎 - せきさんじゅうろう

Kabuki actor. There are six generations. The stage name is Owariya. (1) First generation (1747-1808 ∥ Enkyo 4-Bunka 5) Formerly named Arashi Shichisaburo, Ogino Kichisaburo, Arashiyama Juro, Arashi Sanjuro. Later named Seki Sanuemon. Born in Kyoto. A disciple of the first Arashi Koroku, later to the first Hinasuke. In 1771 (Meiwa 8), he became a leading actor in the southern theater of Kyoto. He excelled in harmony and martial arts, and was both an old man and a real villain. (2) Second generation (1786-1839 ∥ Tenmei 6-Tenpo 10) Formerly named Arashi Soutaro, a disciple of the second Arashi Kichisaburo, he became a disciple of the third Nakamura Utaemon and was named Nakamura Utasuke, later to be adopted by the first Sanjuro (some say his real son), and took the name Sanjuro after Seki Utasuke.

歌舞伎俳優。6世まである。屋号尾張屋。(1)初世(1747‐1808∥延享4‐文化5)　前名嵐七三郎，荻野吉三郎，嵐山十郎，嵐三十郎。後名関三右衛門。京の出身。初世嵐小六の門から，のち初世雛助の門下となる。1771年(明和8)京都の南側芝居の座本をもつとめた。和実，武道事を得意とし，老けと実悪を兼ねた。(2)2世(1786‐1839∥天明6‐天保10)　前名は，2世嵐吉三郎の門で嵐宗太郎，3世中村歌右衛門の門下となり中村歌助，のち初世三十郎の養子(一説に実子とも)となり，関歌助を経て三十郎を襲名。
