This is a Jodo sect temple located in Sagatoriimoto Adashino-cho, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City. It is called Kasaizan Tozen-in and is also known as Adashino's Nembutsu-ji Temple. The principal image is Amida Nyorai. It was founded by Kukai and called Gochisan Nyorai-ji Temple. It was later restored by Honen Shonin (Genku). When Honen fled from the oppression of Enryaku-ji Temple and took refuge in Gatsurin-ji Temple on Mount Atago, he opened a Nembutsu training hall here, and as many Nembutsu followers gathered there, it was renamed Nembutsu-ji Temple. This place used to be called Adashi-no, and together with Rendaino in Rakuzan, it was a cemetery, and is also seen in Tsurezuregusa. The main image of the temple, the Amida Buddha, was made by Tankei. The grave of Suminokura Soan is located here. During Jizobon on August 24th, a Sento Kuyo ceremony is held, and many people visit the temple.
