Litt, Theodor

Japanese: リット(英語表記)Litt, Theodor
Litt, Theodor
Born: December 27, 1880 in Dusseldorf
Died: July 16, 1962. Bonn German philosopher and pedagogue. Studied at the University of Bonn and the University of Berlin, and after working as a gymnasium teacher, he became an associate professor at the University of Bonn in 1919, and in 1920 became a professor at the University of Leipzig, succeeding E. Spranger. In 1937 he left the pulpit in protest against the Nazis. He returned to his post after World War II, but left Leipzig in opposition to East Germany's education policy, and became a professor at the University of Bonn in 1947. His pedagogy integrated W. Dilthey's spiritual scientific method, E. Husserl's phenomenological method, and G. Hegel's dialectical method, and aimed to overcome conflicts between the individual and society, educational ideals and real social demands, and cultivation and worldview. His major works include Individuum und Gemeinschaft (1919) (Individual and Society), Möglichkeit und Grenzen der Pädagogik (Possibilities and Limits of Pedagogy) (26), and Denken und Sein (Thinking and Being) (48).
