An artificial satellite whose main purpose is to measure the geomagnetic field, it has the advantage of being able to measure the entire Earth in a short period of time. The observation results are useful for investigating the structure of the geomagnetic field, magnetic anomalies, geomagnetic changes, and the structure of the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Particularly well-known is the American Magsat, launched in 1979, which, thanks to its sophisticated magnetometer and attitude determination, was able to perform measurements with a high accuracy of 1/10,000.
