A former town in Kaho District, central Fukuoka Prefecture. Most of the area is mountainous, part of the Sangun Mountains. The town produces rice, vegetables, grapes, bamboo shoots, timber, and also raises livestock. The Chikuho Main Line and Sasaguri Line run through the town. There used to be a coal mine in Kaho, but it has since closed. In March 2006, the town was incorporated into Iizuka City along with the towns of Eida, Shonai, and Honami in Kaho District. 福岡県中部,嘉穂郡の旧町。大部分が三郡山地に属する山地。米,野菜,ブドウ,たけのこ,木材などを産し,畜産も行う。筑豊本線,篠栗(ささぐり)線が通じる。嘉穂に炭鉱などがあったが閉山。2006年3月嘉穂郡頴田町,庄内町,穂波町と飯塚市へ編入。74.81km2。1万1487人(2003)。
