Chikuho [town] - Chikuho
A former town in Kaho District, central Fukuoka Prefecture. Most of the area is mountainous, part of the Sangun Mountains. The town produces rice, vegetables, grapes, bamboo shoots, timber, and also raises livestock. The Chikuho Main Line and Sasaguri Line run through the town. There used to be a coal mine in Kaho, but it has since closed. In March 2006, the town was incorporated into Iizuka City along with the towns of Eida, Shonai, and Honami in Kaho District. Area: 74.81 km2 . Population: 11,487 (2003).
