A locomotive powered by a gas turbine. It was first developed in Switzerland in 1941. Because gas turbines are high-speed rotary motors, they are smaller and lighter for their output than other internal combustion locomotives that use reciprocating motors, and they can use pulverized coal as well as light and heavy oil, making their fuel costs low. However, there are problems with adaptability to load fluctuations, and performance is affected by temperature and air pressure. They have been used in small numbers since the 1950s in the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and other countries.

ガスタービンを原動機とした機関車。1941年にスイスで初めて開発された。ガスタービンは高速の回転型原動機であるため，往復原動機による他の内燃機関車に比べ，出力の割に小型軽量となり，軽・重油のほか微粉炭も使用できて燃料費が安い。しかし負荷変動に対する適応性や，性能が気温・気圧の影響を受けることなどに問題がある。米，英，スイスなどで1950年代から少数使用されている。
