A cylindrical basket that is hugged and used to sleep during the summer heat to keep cool. It is about 150 cm long and was originally made of woven bamboo, but also made of rattan. It is also called a hug basket or a sleeping basket. It has been used in China for a long time, and was commonly called "Bamboo Lady" during the Song Dynasty. 暑中,涼をとるために抱いて寝る円筒状の籠(かご)をいう。長さは150cm程度で,本来は竹編みだがトウなども使用。抱籠,添寝籠とも。中国では古くから用いられ,宋代に俗に〈竹夫人〉と呼ばれた。日本にも伝来し,俳諧の季語にもなっている。
