Mys Chelyuskin (Cape)

Japanese: チェリュスキン[岬]（英語表記）Mys Chelyuskin

A cape that forms the northernmost tip of the Taimyr Peninsula in central Russia, it is the northernmost continental point on Earth. It is located at 77°43′ north latitude and 104°18′ east longitude. It belongs to the Taimyr Autonomous Region. An Arctic Ocean meteorological and hydrological observatory was built there in 1932 and observations have been ongoing ever since. The cape was named in honor of Semyon Ivanovich Chelyuskin, who participated in the Great Northern Expedition and first set foot on the cape in 1742. [Watanabe Kazuo]

ロシア連邦中部，タイミル半島の最北端を形づくる岬で，地球上の大陸部の最北端である。位置は北緯77゜43′，東経104゜18′。タイミル自治区に属する。1932年から北極海の気象水文観測所が建設され，観測が続けられている。岬の名称は，北方大探検に参加し，1742年にはじめてこの岬に立ったチェリュスキンSemyon Ivanovich Chelyuskinを記念したものである。【渡辺一夫】
