〘noun〙 A machine that weaves cloth by operating it with the hands and feet. It passes the warp threads and passes the weft threads through the cloth . It also refers to the cloth woven by the machine. Or, it is a general term for woven fabrics. はた【機】

〘名〙 手足で操作して布を織る機械。経(たていと)をわたし、緯(よこいと)を通して織るもの。また、その機械で織った布。あるいは織物の総称。はたもの。※古事記(712)下・歌謡「女鳥の わが王の 織ろす波多(ハタ) 誰が料(たね)ろかも」
