A type of stochastic process introduced to model the change over time in the population of a biological population. It is assumed that each individual reproduces the same thing independently. A typical branching process in the case of discrete time is the Galton–Watson process { Z ( t )} ( t = 0, 1, 2, ...). Let pk be the probability that each produces k individuals. When Xt , i is the number of children the i- th parent has in the tth generation, it is defined as Z (0) = 1.
