Born: June 21, 1850 in Rome [Died] November 13, 1928. Milan Italian dancer and dance teacher. He made his debut in 1870 at La Scala in Milan, dancing "Barbara's Reformation", and toured Europe. In 1892, he became a teacher at the Imperial Dance School in St. Petersburg, where he trained many excellent Russian dancers. He was the founder of the Cecchetti Ballet Method, and he trained five positions strictly and taught seven types of movement in a systematic way. A. Pavlova, O. Preobrazhenska, M. Kschessinska, T. Karsavina, V. Nijinsky, and others studied under him. In 1918, he opened a school in London, which produced L. Massine, A. Bolm, A. Dolin, and S. Lifar. Since 1922, Cecchetti Societies have been established in the United States and the United Kingdom to promote the Cecchetti Method. As a dancer, she is famous for being the premiere performer of the dual roles of Carabosse and the Blue Bird in "Sleeping Beauty."
