German Lutheran theologian. Professor at the Wittenberg Seminary (1817), provincial bishop of Könnenberg (20), professor at the University of Bonn (22-47), and professor at the University of Berlin (47). Niche

It can be translated as "ecological niche". It can refer to the habitat that an organism occupies according to its particular life form, but more generally it often means the role of that organism in a certain biological community, its ecological position. In this view, different species can occupy the same niche in different biological communities if they are in a similar position in the food chain, etc. However, in the same community, only one species can occupy a niche.

Niche

Architectural term. A decorative recess carved into a thick wall. Also called a niche. Used since ancient times in Middle Eastern and European architecture. Usually the base is semicircular in plan and semi-dome shaped at the top, and is generally built at a certain height above the floor. Flower vases and statues are placed on the base for decoration, but some have been used as decorative fountains. There are also some that are not actually recessed into the wall, but are painted with trompe l'oeil.
