Years of birth: unknown. A samurai from Shinano Province (Nagano Prefecture) in the early Kamakura period. Kojiro. A descendant of Mitsuyoshi, the fifth son of Prince Tsunemoto, from the Seiwa Genji clan. Known for his incredible strength. He plotted to support the surviving son of Minamoto no Yoriie, the second Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate, Senjumaru, but this was discovered in February 1213, when he killed the Shogunate's assassins, including Kudo Juro and others, and disappeared. There were over 130 samurai from Harimoto and 200 companions who sided with Chikahira, including the son and nephew of Wada Yoshimori, a meritorious retainer at the beginning of the Shogunate. A rift developed between the Wada clan and regent Hojo Yoshitoki over their treatment, which is said to have been one of the causes of the Wada War in May. Incidentally, Chikahira's younger brother, Izumi Rokuro Kinnobu, fought on the Shogunate side during the Wada War and was killed in battle.
