...It is found only in Japan and Jeju Island, and is very small, with a body length of 6-8 cm, a tail length of 4-4.5 cm, and a weight of 6-12 g. A closely related subspecies of the long-tailed mouse, the Watase's mouse C. horsfieldi watasei , found on Amami Oshima Island, is one of the smallest mammals in the world, with a body length of 5.5 cm. There are more than 140 closely related species in the same genus, and they are widely distributed in warm regions of Asia, Europe, and Africa.
