Sodium Bicarbonate - Sodium Tansansulfate

Sodium Bicarbonate - Sodium Tansansulfate

NaHCO 3 (84.01). It is also called baking soda, acidic sodium carbonate, or sodium bicarbonate. It is obtained by passing carbon dioxide through a saturated aqueous solution of sodium carbonate. It is a white monoclinic crystal. Its density is 2.159 g cm -3 . Its solubility in 100 g of water is 6.9 g (0 °C) and 16.4 g (60 °C). It is poorly soluble in ethanol. When heated, it decomposes, releasing carbon dioxide and water, and becomes anhydrous sodium carbonate at temperatures above 270 °C (laboratory method for producing carbon dioxide and pure sodium carbonate). The aqueous solution hydrolyzes and becomes slightly alkaline, and when heated to 65 °C or higher, it becomes sodium carbonate. It is used in the production of sodium salts, the generation of carbon dioxide, fire extinguishers, baking powder, the production of carbonated drinks, laundry powder soap, butter preservatives, wood mold inhibitors, medicines, and analytical reagents. There is also sodium sesquicarbonate, NaCO 3 ・NaHCO 3 ・2H 2 O. This is natural soda. It is a white monoclinic crystal, less alkaline than sodium carbonate, and is used for washing wool and woolen fabrics. [CAS 144-55-8]

NaHCO3(84.01).
