Rock Around The Clock

… Rhythm and blues is a type of popular music for black people that took shape during the early to mid-1940s, during the Second World War. However, during the postwar period of turmoil, some white young people also started to enjoy dancing to rhythm and blues music, and some white singers and bands noticed this and began to incorporate the sensibility of rhythm and blues. One example of this is the recordings of “Shake, Rattle and Roll” and “Rock Around the Clock” by the band (Bill Haley and His Comets) of the white Bill Haley (1927-81) in 1954.
