The most venomous spider in Japan is the Japanese chiracanthium japonicum , which causes redness and swelling when bitten, and pain that can last for several days in people with allergies, but the pain usually goes away within 30 minutes to 3 hours. Since 1914, the term "dokugumo" has been used as a general term for spiders in the Lycosidae family, but in August 1968, it was changed to "komonegumo" at the general meeting of the East Asian Arachnological Society.
