The chemical formula is Ca(HCO ₃ ) ₂ . It is also called acid calcium carbonate or calcium bicarbonate, but these are colloquial names and are not correct. Calcium carbonate is poorly soluble in water, but it does dissolve in water that contains carbon dioxide. This is because the calcium bicarbonate produced in the following reaction is soluble in water: CaCO ₃ + H ₂ O + CO ₂ --→ Ca(HCO ₃ ) _2However , if you attempt to precipitate calcium bicarbonate by heating this solution or leaving it to evaporate, the above reaction will reverse and calcium carbonate will precipitate again, so solid calcium bicarbonate will not be obtained.

化学式Ca(HCO₃)₂。酸性炭酸カルシウムacid calcium carbonate，重炭酸カルシウムcalcium bicarbonateとも呼ばれるが，俗称で正しい名ではない。炭酸カルシウムは水に難溶であるが，二酸化炭素を含む水には溶ける。これは，次の反応で生じた炭酸水素カルシウムが水に可溶性であるためである。　CaCO₃＋H₂O＋CO₂―→Ca(HCO₃)₂しかし，この溶液を加熱したり，放置蒸発させて炭酸水素カルシウムを析出させようとすると上の反応は逆行し，ふたたび炭酸カルシウムが沈殿するので，固体の炭酸水素カルシウムは得られない。
