A large snail shell of the family Algalidae. The shell is about 22 cm high and 10 cm wide. It is thick and sturdy, with an egg-cone shape. It has more than 10 spiral layers and a red top. The shell surface has a row of bumps on the shoulders of each layer, as well as thin spiral ribs. The pale yellow-brown background has black-brown spots. Strong longitudinal ribs form here and there. The shell opening is wide and egg-shaped, with a thick outer edge that opens. The inside is white, and the tooth-like wrinkles on the outer lip are black. The water canal groove is short and indented. The operculum is black-brown, egg-shaped, leathery and thick.

フジツガイ科の大型巻貝。殻の高さ22cm，幅10cmくらいになる。殻は厚く堅固で，卵円錐形をしている。螺層（らそう）は10階余あり殻頂部は紅色。殻表には各層の肩に瘤（こぶ）の列があり，また細い螺肋（らろく）もある。淡黄褐色の地に黒褐色の斑がある。強い縦肋がところどころにできる。殻口は広く卵形で，その外縁は厚くなって開く。内側は白色で，外唇の歯状のしわは黒い。水管溝は短く，湾入する。ふたは黒褐色で卵形，革質で厚い。
