Discussions on the Art of Shamisen. Written by Hara Butayu. Probably completed around 1765 (Meiwa 2). One volume of manuscript. Although Butayu was a shogunate official in charge of the residence of the governor, he was known as a master of the shamisen. In the autumn of 1736 (Genbun 1), he gave up his art and abandoned the shamisen, and wrote about the principles of the shamisen in the form of a question and answer session. It goes into detail about the essence of the art, such as how to determine the tone, the importance of training in the techniques of the main performers and how to practice playing Joruri, and the nature of the kakegoe.
