Tan Yuanshun

Japanese:
Tan Yuanshun

A Chinese poet from the late Ming Dynasty. His pen name was Youxia. He was from Jingling (Hubei Province). Together with his elder brother Zhong Xing, they advocated the idea of deep and solitary life, and completely wiped out the power of the restorationists. They were called the Jingling School after their hometown, and their ideas were all the rage in the poetry world for a time in the late Ming Dynasty. However, their poetry, which showed a strong attachment to self-loved escapism and feminine sentimentality, was uneducated and eccentric, rarely used historical stories, and lacked power and energy, and their influence was quickly lost with the appearance of Qian Qianyi. However, he wrote some excellent short prose pieces. His work includes the Tan Youxia Collection. His biography is recorded in Chapter 4 of the Ming History's Wenyuan.
