It is a poisonous two-ring octapeptide (also called amatoxin or amanitatoxin) produced by certain mushrooms, including Amanita phalloides. There are α-, β-, and γ-amanitins, with α-amanitin being the most toxic. It causes cholera-like poisoning. It specifically inhibits RNA polymerase, especially RNA polymerase II.
