The name of the East Japan Railway Company's track. 84.4 km between Oyama (Tochigi Prefecture) and Shin-Maebashi (Gunma Prefecture). The entire line is DC electrified. Single track (16.9% double track) except for Iwafune-Sano and Komagata-Maebashi. Connecting the northern part of the Kanto Plain from east to west, linking cities such as Tochigi, Sano, Ashikaga, Kiryu, Isesaki, and Maebashi. Opened by the Ryomo Railway in 1888-1889 (Meiji 21-22) to connect the area, which had been known as a textile manufacturing area since the Edo period (part of the Shin-Maebashi-Maebashi section was opened by the Japanese Railway in 1884), it was merged into the Japanese Railway, nationalized in 1906, and became the Ryomo Line in 1909 when the name of the line was established. At this time, the section between Oyama and Takasaki was the Ryomo Line, but in 1957 (Showa 32), the section between Shin-Maebashi and Takasaki was incorporated into the Joetsu Line, resulting in the current section. Many trains run directly to Takasaki, and some trains run on the Takasaki Line and directly to Tokyo. Electrification of the entire line was completed in 1968. In 1987, following the privatization of the Japanese National Railways, the line became part of East Japan Railway Company.
