Japanese: タンガロア - たんがろあ（英語表記）Tangaloa

Along with Tānetūrongo, Tangaroa is a god who holds an important position in myths and religious ceremonies throughout Polynesia. He is the most important god in central and western Polynesia, and in Tahiti and Samoa, Tangaroa is said to be the creator god living alone in infinite space, who created the heavens, the earth, humans, etc. In other regions, Tangaroa holds an important position among the gods, but is never spoken of as a creator god. In Hawaii, Tangaroa is the god of evil and misfortune, and appears as a giant octopus. In New Zealand, Tangaroa is one of the sons of heaven and earth, and sea creatures and lizards are the sons of Tangaroa.
