A classification of chanting songs. Refers to hymns written in Japanese, as opposed to Chinese and Sanskrit hymns. When simply called hymn, it refers to the first two, and does not usually include this hymn. The two most famous are "Hokke Sanmyo" and "Sharitsu Sanmyo." The former is also called "Takiginoku" (Verse of Firewood), and has lyrics that begin with "The Lotus Sutra, what I have gained..." and takes the form of repeating the final line in tanka form twice, and is used in the fifth part of the "Hokke Hatsukou (Eight Lotus Lectures)." The latter has lyrics in prose form that begin with "How difficult it is to encounter the Buddha's relics..." and is recited in the "Sharitsu Koshiki."
