San Pedro Sula (English spelling)
Located in northwest Honduras, it is the country's second largest city and has Puerto Cortes as its outer port. It has a population of 368,500 (1994). It was founded in 1536, but no historical buildings remain. Today, it is a center for the cultivation of bananas, sugar cane, etc., and industrial activity is also thriving.
