A city in the southern part of Osaka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1956. The northern part is the lowlands of the Osaka Plain, while the southern part is hilly land that continues onto the Izumi Mountains. The central city of Fuchu was once the capital of Izumi Province, and developed as the intersection of the Kawaizumi and Oguri roads. The city is served by the Hanwa Line and the Hanwa Expressway. There are many small and medium-sized cotton fabric factories that developed from Izumi cotton in the Edo period, and it belongs to the Senshu Textile Industrial Zone, producing woolen textiles and housing a corporate complex for women's and children's clothing. Wire rope, imitation pearls, and glasswork are also produced, and mandarin oranges and persimmons are cultivated. Senboku New Town and Izumi New Town are located in the hills. Area: 84.98 km2 . 大阪府南部の市。1956年市制。北部は大阪平野の低地,南部は和泉山脈に続く丘陵地。中心市街の府中はかつての和泉国府所在地で,河泉・小栗両街道の交点として発達,阪和線,阪和自動車道が通じる。江戸期の和泉木綿から発展した綿織布の中小工場が多く,泉州紡織工業地帯に属し,毛織を産し,婦人・子ども服の企業団地が立地する。ワイヤロープ,模造真珠,ガラス細工も生産,ミカン,花卉(かき)を栽培。丘陵部に泉北ニュータウン,和泉ニュータウンがある。84.98km2。18万4988人(2010)。
