Muzilis (English spelling)

...Because it was a key location for maritime traffic around the Indian Ocean and was a producer of spices, ivory, and Chinese woods such as sandalwood and rosewood, the local kingdoms that were established here played an important role in the history of East-West relations. The Chera dynasty, mentioned in the Ashoka inscriptions, had been trading with both the East and the West since several centuries ago, and the name of the port city of Muzilis at that time was known even to ancient Greece and Rome. It is said that Christianity was introduced to the area as early as the 4th century.
