Tamura Shrine

Japanese:
Tamura Shrine

Located in Ichinomiya-cho, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture. It enshrines Yamatototohimomosohime-no-mikoto, Isaserihiko-no-mikoto, Sarutahiko-no-Okami, Ameno-Kaguyama-no-mikoto, and Amenoitane-no-mikoto (all five of these gods are called Tamura-no-Okami). The founding date is unknown, but the shrine's tradition states that the main building was built in 709 (Wado 2). There are various legends about the enshrined deity, but it has long been known as Sadamizu Daimyojin, and since there is a well called Sadamizu under the floor of the main hall, it is believed that the shrine originated from the belief in the well that irrigated the rice fields around the main hall. In 849 (Kasho 2), it was promoted to Junior Fifth Rank, and under the Engi system it became a Myojin Taisha Shrine, later the Ichinomiya Shrine of Sanuki Province, and under the Meiji system it became a Kokuhei Chusha Shrine.

The regular festival is held on October 8th, and there are many other special rituals such as the early summer festival on May 8th, the Okachotare no Shinji ritual, and the Mosquito Net Removal ritual that takes place after the regular festival on October 8th.
