A medieval and early modern castle located in Watarai County, Ise Province. Also written as Tamaru Castle, the ruins of the castle are currently located in Tamaru, Tamaki Town, Watarai County, Mie Prefecture. In October 1336 (Engen 1, Kenmu 3), Watarai Ieyuki, a member of the Ise southern army, entered the castle along with Kitabatake Chikafusa and Akinobu, and it served as a base for the southern army until its fall in 1342 (Kokoku 3, Koei 1). The Kitabatake clan later moved to Take Castle, but Tamamaru Castle remained under their control, and it became the residence of the Aisu clan, a vassal of the Kitabatake clan, and the Tamaru clan, a branch of the Kitabatake clan. The Tamaru clan is also known as the Tamaru Imperial Palace, and their residence castle, along with Okawachi Castle, the base of the Okawachi clan, was the Kitabatake clan's most important base for controlling the southern forces.
