Born in Kuwait Limburg, he studied theology at university, but while he was still a student he joined the Bremen Contributors in Leipzig, and published the first three chapters of Messiah in the magazine Bremen Contributors in 1748. This made him famous, and in 1751 he was invited by the King of Denmark to live in Copenhagen, where he devoted himself to writing as a poet. …
