...Steel engineer. Born in Higashimura, Seta County, Kozuke Province. He lost his father at a young age, but was greatly influenced by his mother, a rare female doctor at the time. His mother, Tsuneko, trained under Asada Sohaku, famous for Asada Ame, and was the most trusted doctor in the local area. Kaichiro graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the Imperial University of Tokyo and joined the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce. In 1894, he studied at the University of Mines in Freiburg as an engineer, honing his knowledge of Western iron-making technology. He participated in the planning of the establishment of the government-run Yawata Steel Works, and in 1896, he was responsible for the founding of the works as deputy head of the engineering department. ...
